SHORT FUSE: Story of an AIDS Activist

February 5, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Life and Times of Daniel Sotomayor

The Legacy LIVE Series kicks off 2017 with the rarely seen, award-winning 1990 documentary “Short Fuse: Story of an AIDS Activist” about the fiery, funny, passionate life of Daniel Sotomayor, the nation’s first openly gay political cartoonist and ACT-UP/Chicago AIDS activist. Follow his struggle to balance life, death, and protest cast against some of the most explosive footage of AIDS activism ever captured in Chicago. This film is presented on the 25th Anniversary of Daniel’s passing, in cooperation with the Art, AIDS, America/Chicago Exhibit and the Alphawood Foundation.

Followed by a Q & A with several of Daniel’s closest friends:

* LORI CANNON | Founder of Open Hand/Vital Bridges/Heartland Health Outreach | Act-Up Chicago Activist

* OWEN KEEHNEN | LGBT History Biographer | Act-Up Chicago Activist

* TIM MILLER | Act-Up Chicago Activist

Moderated by Victor Salvo | Executive Director, The Legacy Project

The Legacy LIVE Series is a joint venture of Center on Halsted and the Legacy Project. Together we explore the stories behind our ancestors and the important milestones that have shaped LGBTQ life today. Through thought-provoking programming, and creative, entertaining events, we are bridging the gap between our past and our future for ourselves and our children.
